Katelyn Petersen is a cellist, composer, and educator from San Antonio, Texas, based in Dallas–Fort Worth. A passionate musician and teacher, she offers instruction in both cello and piano, guiding students of all ages through a deeply thoughtful and creative approach to music.

Katelyn’s musical journey began at the age of three with piano and violin, before she discovered her true voice in the cello. Her early exposure to music was nurtured by her grandmother, Larida Scott, a collegiate music professor and performer, whose unwavering dedication to the arts continues to serve as a source of inspiration in Katelyn’s own life and work.

A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Katelyn bridges the gap between classical tradition and contemporary expression through interdisciplinary collaboration. As a synesthete—a person whose senses naturally blend—she experiences the world in unique, multi-sensory ways. This rare neurological trait allows her to interpret sound as color, texture, and movement, deeply influencing both her compositions and her visual artwork.

Katelyn’s creative process is shaped by her introspective temperament and appreciation for nature. Whether hiking mountain trails or simply observing the subtle patterns of the natural world, she draws creative fuel from the intricate beauty around her. Her compositions are influenced by cinematic and video game soundtracks, blending emotive storytelling with rich sonic landscapes.

As a Christian, Katelyn’s work often explores the tension between the physical and spiritual—expressing longing, hope, and the complexities of the human experience through music and art. Her thoughtful, intuitive teaching style emphasizes depth, quality, and self-discovery, inviting students and audiences alike into a more meaningful encounter with the arts.
